AMoKI project: Innovations for sustainable land management in Germany

News

The AMoKI project (Autonomous Mining Monitoring in Loose and Solid Rock based on Remote Sensing Data for Sustainable Land Management) has officially commenced, aiming to provide groundbreaking solutions for land management in Germany. Given the high demands for sustainable land management and ensuring the supply of stones and earth resources (S&E resources), the development of a (semi-)autonomous system is crucial.

Current methods for capturing extraction areas and statistics in many federal states are inadequate for modern land management. Lack of transparency and traceability, as well as high potential for digitization, are making this project really interesting.

The AMoKI project aims to address these gaps. Through industrial research of a machine learning (ML)-based system, authorities' and satellite imagery data are utilized to conduct extraction monitoring of S&E extraction operations. The AI system enables the capture, pattern recognition, and tracking of land use and changes in land use by S&E operations, including consideration of 3D volumes.

Thus, the AMoKI project marks an important milestone towards sustainable land management in Germany, contributing to the long-term security of domestic resource supply.
