Future at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen

News

Last week, our machine learning researcher, Dr. Jan Macdonald, presented at the Interdisziplinäre Fachtagung (Interdisciplinary Conference) titled Fast Forward Future at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.

Jan introduced our research project, PretrainAppEO, which explores transfer learning and meta learning techniques for earth observation. His talk focused on crop type classification using satellite imagery, a key application in agriculture and environmental monitoring.

The presentation was designed as an "impulse talk," aimed at introducing different transfer learning methods to the audience. Jan highlighted the relevance of these methods in adapting models to new tasks with limited data, as well as the value of meta learning in enabling models to quickly learn from new environments, which is particularly important for analyzing satellite data under varying conditions.

The event brought together experts from diverse fields such as machine learning, environmental sciences, and data analysis. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work and contribute to discussions on how AI can address challenges in Earth observation, especially in agriculture and land use.

We thank Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen for hosting this event and look forward to continued collaboration.
