Creative Bureaucracy Festival: Much energy, creativity and determination within the public sector

Last Thursday our colleague Julius Lauenstein attended the Creative Bureaucracy Festival in Berlin. The Creative Bureaucracy Festival is an annual event that brings together public sector innovators, creative minds, and changemakers from Germany and the DACH region. Its core purpose is to rethink the principles, processes, and practices of public institutions and explore how better bureaucracy can emerge.
The event provided interesting presentations such as the session by Iliya Nickelt from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Data Lab on balancing agile, cloud-based prototyping with the long-term demands of secure public services, or the impressive AI-driven tools presented by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the German pension insurance to support large-scale inspection processes that were previously highly labour intensive.
It was great to see the shared sense of purpose and drive across all these initiatives, focussing on progress rather than scepticism. The public sector is not lagging behind in innovation - it’s actively shaping the future with responsibility, expertise, and momentum.
We're glad to be part of ongoing digitalization efforts within German and European governments, developing AI-based process automations for more efficiency.
